On 30 January, the branch of Rosseti Centre - Kostromaenergo celebrated its 65th anniversary. Today, it is a high-tech, sustainable enterprise where generations of experience and modern solutions ensure reliable power supply to consumers and the development of the Kostroma region.
Its history began in 1961, when the Kostromaenergo district energy department was created to develop the region’s industrial energy sector. It united the Kostroma Thermal Power Plant-1, the city’s power grids, and the Kosmyninskoye and Filiptsevskoye peat enterprises.
By 1970, the Kostromaenergo branch had completed the full electrification of the region, and in the 1970s and 1980s, it became one of the industry leaders in implementing advanced work organization methods and developing mentoring.
By 2000, Kostromaenergo’s workforce exceeded 3,800 people.
With its merger with IDGC of Centre (now Rosseti Centre) in 2008, a major modernization of the electric grid facilities began. Key achievements of this period included the commissioning of the high-tech Davydovskaya and Vostochnaya-1 substations, as well as the creation of the Grid Control Centre.
Since 2015, the reconstruction of main substations, including Kostroma-1 and Yuzhnaya, has lifted capacity restrictions and paved the way for the region’s socio-economic development.
Large-scale digitalization in 2019–2020 enabled remote monitoring of more than 24,000 kilometres of power lines. At the same time, major street lighting modernization projects using modern LED technologies were implemented in Kostroma and other municipalities in the region.
The high professionalism of Kostromaenergo’s team is also confirmed at the national level: in 2024, the branch’s team was placed among the top three in the Rosseti Group’s professional skills competition.
Boris Ebzeev, General Director of Rosseti Centre, PJSC - managing organization of Rosseti Centre and Volga region, PJSC, congratulated the branch’s team on its anniversary and noted: “The history of the Kostromaenergo branch is one of responsibility, professionalism, and constant progress. For 65 years, the team has reliably provided electricity to the region, consistently implementing modern technologies and preserving the best industry traditions. Today, Kostromaenergo is a solid foundation for energy security and sustainable development in the Kostroma region”.
