May 24, 1960 on the basis of the Tambov power complex the Tambov District Energy Agency «Tambovenergo» was organized. The structure of the Tambov power system included Tambov power plant, Michurinskaya and Pervomayskaya Combined Heat and Power plants and a co-generation plant under construction in Kotovsk, as well as created as part of the Tambov power complex the enterprise of high-voltage grid and network utilities in all cities and towns in the region. This date is considered to be the day of the foundation of the Tambov power system.
The starting point of a new stage in the history of the Tambov power industry was the establishment of the Open Joint Stock Company for Power and Electrification «Tambovenergo» on the basis of the regional energy agency in 1992.
In 2005 the reform of «Tambovenergo» was completed through the unbundling of generation and retail of electricity, transmission of electricity, as well as non-core businesses. As a result of the reorganization of the Company the main activities of OJSC «Tambovenergo» at that time was the transmission and distribution of electricity within the Tambov region.
Since the end of March 2008 Open Joint Stock Company «Tambovenergo» ceased to exist, having merged IDGC of Centre, JSC as a branch. The change that occurred opened new prospects for development for Tambov power engineers.
